loft & daughter is thrilled to share that we are now a certified b corp

Proudly joining a global community of businesses that meet high standards of social and environmental impact, reinventing business as a force for good.

What is B corporation?

The certification process is a robust, intense and (rightly so) an incredibly tough process. It scrutinizes every area of the business, requiring in-depth evidence backed answers across 5 key impact pillars; Governance, Workers, Environment, Customers & Community. In order to become certified, a business must score a minimum of 80 points. Whilst I lost a large portion of points due to having no formal certification for my recycled silver, I was heartened to receive 88.1 points, with Supply Chain Poverty Alleviation as my Impact Business Model.

How do you get certified?

The ‘B’ in B Corp stands for ‘Benefit for all’; workers, communities, customers and our planet. B Corporations are businesses leading the way in making a positive impact on the world, using business as a force for good. We are a community of businesses who meet high levels of social & environmental performance, accountability & transparency, driving change and playing our part in creating a more just world.

MY JOURNEY TO B CORP

Back in 2018, before Loft & Daughter had launched, before I even had a website or a business email address, I attended a workshop to learn all about the B Corp movement. Armed only with an idea that beautiful products could, through their very creation, uplift, empower & financially stabilize their makers & communities, using planet friendly, time-honoured craftsmanship, I left with a deep knowing that B Corp perfectly aligned with my founding values.

I immediately set up an account and opened up an application. That was back in 2018! It was always in the background, but as a one-woman start up, I was already overwhelmed with getting my brand off the ground. As each new year rolled round, ‘finish my B-Corp application’ was always on my to-do list. I started tinkering with it back in 2021, and then finally dove into properly in May 2022 under the guidance of a B Corp consultant.

It’s been a long, daunting process, but it has forced me to look at my brand with critical eye, keeping me accountable and highlighting areas where I need to improve. It has also cemented the fact that Loft & Daughter is, at its core, a social impact brand on a mission to give back. It has provided a wonderful blueprint for how I want to conduct my brand as it grows, and gives me the opportunity to identify where I need to focus on my sustainability journey.

I am so proud to finally join the incredible B Corp movement but know that this is just the beginning! Loft & Daughter is in it for the long haul and I look forward to pushing towards even higher social & environmental standards as I learn and adapt.
